Behavior By Design is based in Kissimmee, and also serves the St. Cloud, Orlando, and surrounding Central Florida area. I work with families and individuals to bring out the best in their pets through obedience training and behavior consultation. Pets are sort of like exchange students who've come to live with us and don’t speak our language. I teach people to communicate with their pets to develop healthy relationships based in trust and understanding. By improving our understanding of our pets’ needs and motivations, we’re better equipped to help them achieve their potential as the happy, loving companions we all hope for.

My methods are based on the science of learning theory & animal behavior, and are primarily positive reinforcement, using what's known as "clicker training". What this means is that we will focus on what we want to achieve with the animal by teaching what we want them to do using things the animal finds rewarding (such as treats, praise, toys/play, etc.), rather than using force, coercion or punishing them for behavior we don’t want. These methods have been tested and honed over the last few decades by pre-eminent applied behaviorists & trainers working not only with companion animals such as dogs, cats and birds, but also with large and potentially dangerous wild animals such as dolphins, whales, jungle cats and wolves, which don't respond well to punitive methods. In this way, we foster a trusting relationship with our animals and create a willingness and zest for learning.
